I ran across this interesting site by a guy building an Acro Sport who appears to be a master metalworker.

Beautiful work. I'd love to see the completed airplane. It might be too nice to paint !

OK I'm new to this forum. But the photos of the Acro Sport II are from my plane. I've been a member of the Metalshapers Forum for a few years.

Excellent, how about an update on your progress (I've not started yet), and anything else you'd like to say about the project.

I've got a IO-360 - 200HP going on the front with a Hartzel C/S prop. As the project stands right now I'm finalizing the metal panels in prep for paint this winter. The wings will be mounted and control members run for final inspection by the DAR. I still need to run the wiring but I do have a diagram made-up. The wiring is fairly simple with a AIM3000 engine system and just VFR gauges. I did make a convertablee canopy/open cockpit conversion simular to the M12 Pitts.

I'd like to post a few photos and cad files for the Acro Sport guys but I'm not sure how yet.

Hello,

Since I am currently building the all metal Thatcher CX4, I am interested in which metal shapers forum you belong to.

Thanks,

When you throw out a name like Thatcher CX4 please give a small description. I have never heard of it. Is it a LSA ?
Thanks

Hello Randy,

I have information and photos on the Thatcher CX4 on my website.
It is an all metal VW powered new low wing design that can be built to comply with LSA operational rules.
I am currently building the CX4 and am already thinking about a Skyote for my next project to be built to comply with LSA operational rules.

Happy Holidays,

Nice looking plane Bill. I can easily see myself in something like that when my medical fails.
I am glad to see something with a little performance come along that is build-yourself in the LSA field. I have looked at several of the "kits' and then looked at the kit prices and wondered just where the phrase " cheaper to get into flying" comes from ?
Happy Holidays to you too.

No, I mean after I cannot pass my medical anymore as the LSA category of aircraft only require a valid drivers lisence and not an FAA medical exam.

I will not renew my medical. This is my motivator to hurry up and finish building the airplane.

All I'm saying is don't actually flunk the medical or you can't go the Sport Pilot route.  Not renewing, as Bill Wilson says,  is okay.

You are correct, I misunderstood what you were saying. I think there is some work being done in this area as many feel it isn't fair if you flunk your physical you cannot fly LSA when many LSA pilots couldn't pass the physical. We will get an answer on this in about 5 years or so :((
