Default Smoke system for S1C

I'm interested in getting a smoke system. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, where in the heck does the tank mount?

Default smoke system

I've got one I removed from my Pitts. It mounts beneath the main tank. I'd sell it if you are interested. I see you are in TN. I'm nto too far away in NC.

Jason, did you just buy that S1C? Looks like one I noticed for sale on Barnstormers today. Also, check the price of smoke oil and make sure you're sitting down. Might change your mind about wanting smoke.

Edit: Just looked at the ad on Barnstormers again and I see you're the seller.

Check out "univolt n161". It's what we use for smoke on the spray plane. It might accidentally be cheaper.

I cannot find univolt n161 on Google. Is there another name or company I can search? Cheap smoke oil? Oxymoron....

Yes, it's posted for sale due to a "disagreement" about how many toys I'm allowed. I'm in no hurry to sell. If it does go, I'll be moving to a 2 seater, a Starduster or maybe a Skybolt. I have 2 kids that are ready to start flying a little.

I think most petroleum suppliers can get it, so hopefully there wouldn't be any shipping, but I could be very wrong.

If your going to spend $836 for a 55 gal drum just get the Superdri Smoke Oil, it's the best stuff out there and would be comparable in cost depending on who you buy it from.

As far as an "aftermarket" smoke system, Smoking Airplanes is about the best I've found, I had one of the first installations in an S-1, the pump mounted on the tank and tank mounted under the aircraft fuel tank to the floor structure. My only complaint with the Smoking Airplanes system is that the components are pretty heavy, you could probably build a system that's lighter. The system works really well though, I got a lot of compliments on the smoke!

If you've got the aux tank in the top wing you'd probably be better off using that as your smoke tank, then you'd just have to add a pump, lines, and fittings rather than trying to stuff a whole nother tank in the plane. If you do this I would recommend only using it for smoke and not fuel and smoke unless you have a bullet proof way of keeping the two systems seperate and you use a checklist prior to use.

I have the Smokingairplanes system on my Yak. A friend uses diesel and hydraulic oil (both free to him) with his smoke system. The smoke doesn't seem to be as thick, but it works. I bought 5 gallon buckets of Super Dri for 125 ea shipped. I try to resist using smoke but it is waaay too much fun. The downside is the smoke leaves proof of what you just did and some folks think something is wrong and make phone calls to different agencies. Just saying

Talk to John at smoking airplanes, he helped me get my 2B system going. His injectors us clamps so there is no stress or cracking on the exhaust pipes and his pump is beefy and will take the abuse!
