Default Graphic Design Artist

I thought I would share this experience. Somebody here might find this useful for their airplane. I wanted a good illustrator, to create me a custom logo for my project. So, I took this route:

This is a freelance website, where freelancers make bids for projects posted on the site. You browse the freelancers by grade, and invite someone that might be impressive, based upon their portfolio/feedback. www.upwork.com.

I created a project. Within 24 hours, 30 bids came in. While browsing the freelancers list, I came across this guy who I felt could be a good fit for what I wanted. http://www.upwork.com/o/profiles/use...8aac9a56ced15/ .

So, I unpublished the project, and only invited this guy to the project and we agreed terms. The price I gave to the job was $150. I know after, I could have priced it for less than $100. But I was cautious of low balling (you get what you pay for, etc.).

The deliverable was a vector drawing, scale-able for large printouts, decals, wraps, etc. The last image is the final image. I am still pondering over the text 'airshows', my mind keeps thinking '$5 rides', 'Aviation', 'Air Services'...something that's fun, like the satire of ACME, where 'stuff never worked'.

Love it Beej. Especially the dynomite.

If we are weighing in on text, i think i'd put "Aviation" vs. "Airshows"...but the only opinion that matters is your own.

As a big Road Runner fan I love it. Any copyright issues using those likenesses?

I was waiting for that

There is a whole rabbit hole on that subject.

I did look into it for a while, terms like, fair use, non commercial purposes, etc.

http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/uscode/17/1/107
https://janefriedman.com/the-fair-use-doctrine/

Then after seeing so much Time Warner stuff on fridge magnets, car stickers and other trinkets from amazon, and dozens of other sources, all commercial, I figured ol little me, with what is effectively a one off fun drawing will take the risk.

That's a great looking piece, Beej. I've been wondering about getting someone to do a piece of nose art design... thanks for the heads up ! He/she will probably be getting a call from me.

I like it! Sometimes it takes a pro to develop a good idea.
