Default 3in1 Wanted...recommended.

Hey guys...I have a 3in1 in the rear seat of the Starduster Too. It's got a 25ft oil temp probe. Way to long. Only need 9ft. I can't find anyone to work on mine (it's radium dial) or for that matter even if was not I can't find anyone to shorten the probe and recalibrate. It's a oil pressure, oil temp, and fuel pressure (I only need range of like 0-5psi).

Looking for another with a shorter prob that I could have the face restored and painted for Ranger specs. Like I said need about a 9 ft probe. (I could use electric probe style if the sending unit will fit in same hole as the other style)

What's your recommendations? I don't want to go all digital....I like the "look" of the 3in1. Also do not want separate gauges.

I had one similar to what you are looking for. I'll check the hangar this weekend.

There must have been a bunch of those w/25' gages way back when. My Pitts had one with extra length coiled on top of tank.......

I hated the extra weight on the Pitts, I doubt if your Ranger will care.

Jack,

I'm trying to shave about 50lbs off the plane. It was fine as is for my mission but lighter is a goal. (Was 1556lbs Empty...now goal is 1499lbs) going with a earthX battery is going to save about 25-30lbs over my old battery and battery box setup. Anyway, I also want to have the unit freshened up, and the dial marked correctly for a Ranger (old markings are on the glass...not cool)

If I have to I'll settle for just a calibration test of my unit and dials freshened up and marked correctly. But I'd prefer to shed a couple pounds of that heavy probe length.

The electric gauge you showed with I'd do but the fuel pressure scale and oil pressure scale are way to high. I don't want to be using the lower 25% as my full range. Make since? I wonder if I can call and get one with lower ranges? I'd be good with 0-6psi fuel and 0-120psi oil or so.

Probably asking for a lot. Everyone has just gone to digital stuff.

Had to replace mine a few months ago. Lance aircraft supply in dallas has new old stock instruments with 8' as well as 12' and 15' length oil temp probs. Could not find anyone to work on mine either.

Why even worry about the fuel pressure, most low PSI carb. systems don't have a gage so if you are only using the bottom 1/4 scale is good enough, That's why it's unlikely you will find a 3-1 with low fuel psi.

If it quits, hit boost pump or wobble and/or land! I wouldn't be looking at the gage although handy to have in case you are having "issues" but hope you don't.

Best to get rid of the radium dial anyway. My boss had to help recover them as he was in the airplane parts business when they had to be removed, and we know one of the aviation lawyers who won the case, you dont want him on the other side of you. My boss said there were warehouses to the celling with removed radium instruments in the early 70's waiting to be destroyed. Might have been an AD to remove them in the end.
