Default Curtis Pitts S-1S incident

So I was at the airport sleeping this morning in my man cave. I heard a a loud roar and bang so I came out to this. It was on the market as the first S-1S that Curtis built. It just got sold yesterday and guy was passing through.

Hate to see that. Curious to how it didn't end up on its back.

It's a shame to see one twisted up like that, but it can be rebuilt, presumably. Let's go easy on the poor chap (as he's probably a poster on here) until all the details are known.

Such a shame. Hope he's ok and the airplane gets fixed.

That's heart breaking. I am glad the Pilot is OK. These airplanes are good at protecting the Pilot in a mishap. Hopefully insurance is in place.

A very good friend of mine restored that a few years ago and sold it to a gent in Florida who flipped it, now this. Poor thing can't catch a break. It really is a piece of Pitts history.

Wow.. that sucks. I don't think that one is going to be "an easy rebuild". And it definitely won't be cheap with the engine taking the hit. Glad it didn't hit your hangar or you. In the last year, you've gotten to see this kind of thing more than once.. your Cub.. now this...

Ground loop? I always like to keep in mind the saying: There are two types of pilots - those who have ground looped and those who will ground loop.

Very sorry for those involved. I've been part of a incident with a newly acquired plane and dreams are shattered no matter if it was the new owner or a ferry pilot. Hope he turns this into just another bump in the road and gets back to his dream soon. Looks like the bungees or gear failed too? I'll be interested to know the why of this but hope to see the fix too. Bottom line no matter if it was a mechanical or pilot error...don't let this be the end to your Pitts dreams.

He is a poster here, please refrain from saying anything negative about him. Let him tell his side of the story. Thank you.

Until he has everything squared away with the NTSB, FAA, and his insurance company, the owner/pilot of this airplane should probably refrain from posting anything about it, here, or anywhere else.

That was a really nice plane. Hope it gets repaired. I have been shopping for a while and really liked the looks of that one but it was out of budget

Ed restored it and flipped it with only minor damage - same guy.

I liked Danny's comment in general but it may or may not be an actual factor. I got a S2C checkout for the insurance company before I flew the AD2 and it was worthwhile. But that doesn't mean a S1S couldn't get the best of me.

I certainly hope the airplane does catch a break in the future.

Jack
