Designer Frank Smith died of a heart attack shortly after completing the prototype.[4] His wife, Dorothy, and son, Donald continued to market the plans into the 1970s[1][2][4] and Donald worked on a two-seat version,[4] the Miniplane+1.[1]

But there is a biplane that looks like it would be a two place Miniplane called the LACO First one was LACO125 and second one was LACO145 The number were ref to HP of Cont engine 125hp and the 145hp Six cyc engines.
Well to me it looked like a two place Miniplane if you made a few cosmetic changes.

Never thought of that but you're right it does look like a 2- place Miniplane. Did they offer drawings? Never saw more than two airplanes you cited.

I remember the LYCOs, but don't recall ever hearing of any being built other than the two by the designer. Doesn't mean that there weren't any. There were a lot of the little biplane designs up into the 70s that just didn't really catch on. Hugo Craft, Isacs Fury, Roy Shirleys Big Cootie and The Willie II which was the only 2 place in the bunch, come to mind. There was even a Curtiss-like pusher, the Rayner Pusher, by Herb Rayner of Arkansas.

The 1970 issue of "Air Trails- Homebuilt Aircraft", lists the Pitts S-1 (no second letter designation) as a single place aerobatic bipe seats 1; 125 hp info $2, plans $100. On the facing page the Smith Miniplane info pac was $1 and plans were $25. The Miniplane add boasted of over 150 flying.

First, thank you all for your comments and fast response (im very new to the site). I have done some more reseach and there were some made but, it wasent advertised as much as some of the newer planes of the time. as the years past after the design of the mini, people wanted to have more than 1 seaters so the project slowley went away. Im still very into the smith mini plane DSA-1 but i might want a 2 seater in the future. thanks again. John.Edited by: High-flyer

If I ever saw a two seat Smith Miniplane it would be this. It is the Meeks Sun Devil.

N95334,
I I know that this is an old thread but I am new to this fourm just got my first biplane, a Starduster Too.
Regarding the Laco, a local pilot bought one approx 20 years ago, which I understood was the only one flying at that time. He lost an engine in a rual area of South Carolina directly over a small landing strip. He landed there, proceeded to repair the plane and the owner of the strip bought it from him. My understanding is the plane burned in the hanger where was being repaired. Just thought I would pass this on for whatever it's worth.
Thanks
