Rutan Catbird composite speedster sedan, foreground, a different kind of \'biplane\' -- a \'tandem wing\' biplane (one canard in front of the main wing carries some of the load), designed by legendary canard/composite maven Burt Rutan, around the same time as he was designing the Beech Starship. Ostensibly, this was an attempt to develop a replacement for the Beech Bonanza, but it became better known for spectacular efficiency in the CAFE standards competition, capable of up to 30 miles per gallon at speeds over 200 mph! Not bad for a four seater! Alas, this is the only one ever built. Just beyond it, a tube and rag Steen Skybolt homebuilt provides traditional biplane contrast.
