• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi everyone,

After taking a year off to work on a beat up old Victorian home we purchased, we are finally getting back to our airplane projects. The house needed everything and is by no means done, but we feel it is comfortable enough to slowly get back into our other projects.

We are having to replace some fuel line on our J-5 Cub and have brought some Skybolt parts home from the hangar to work on. After stepping away for a year, it's not easy to remember where you left off.

Just after we closed on the house, we took delivery on an IO 540 from Bob Barrows at R&B Aircraft. It has been ordered a year earlier before we even considered buying a house. We moved the crate into the hangar and filled the engine up with oil, hoping for the best. After 11 months we discovered a puddle of oil beneath it. We purchased a huge engine hoist from a rental yard for 50 bucks and raised the engine yesterday to discover a plastic plug stuck in one of the sump bosses. What I need to know is are the sump bosses pipe thread or NF bolt thread? We need to get something plugging that hole asap.

cheers,
Jim
