• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. AEIO-540-D4B5 for sale
Engine 0 SMOH
Imported engine to Australia, purchased from EAA - removed from Tom Poberezny's Eagle I. Engine has 308 hours SMOH (Lycoming) when removed in 1995.
Engine was overhauled here in Australia, Performance Engines high compression 10:1 pistons (ceramic coated), performance cam were installed. All accessories included:
Airflow Performance FM300A Servo (New)B&C SD-20 (New)MT P-880-5 Governor (New)Raven Vac Pad AdapterNew engine ears (not installed)
Painted gloss black with chrome kit. Was overhauled in December 2008 and preserved. Nothing wrong with the engine, just decided to overhaul rather than tear down inspection to be sure.
This is a serious engine with everything you need - just bolt in on and off you go.
All logs from the beginning along with oil analysis when Tom P was flying it.
Engine is sitting on shipping pallet ready to go, estimate $800 to $1000 USD air freight to the US. Will cover crate in plywood for shipping.
Will be going on Barnstormers in next few days. I will try and unwrap it and post pics.
Asking $35k USD.

The B5 has a 1200 series magneto which operate reliably at higher altitudes. I sold the 1200 series mags that came with my B5 model 540 engine to go with Slicks so I could get the engine closer to the firewall. Here's something I pulled off the web:
S1200 series magnetos have alarger rotor and coil coupled with a larger distributor electrode separation which allows this magneto to run to 25,000 feet unpressurized. They produce an enormous
spark which allows for wider spark plug gapping. Not all airframe
installations can accomodate the physical size of this magneto.
