• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

The other day, after a discussion on the forum about spins and spin awareness, I tried spinning my in-progress Marquart Charger model. The sim didn't really handle it well. Either my model is fairly inaccurate, or the sim's handling of this scenario is deficient, because I'm pretty sure this isn't what happens. The grey plane in the inset is the aerodynamic object the sim is working with, so it's ignoring rigging, cabane, IP struts and aileron struts, though the "fuselage drag" number is cranked right up to compensate.

In each of the three "spins" in the video, I aim at the sky, completely cross-controlled (full rudder, and full aileron in the opposite direction), power on or not as indicated on the tach. In each case, hilarity ensues. I see what Eric A means about never wanting to enter a spin if they were actually like this.
