• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Anyone seen this S2-B fuel issue?

The lower (seal) bearing in the Weldon electric fuel pump (c8100f) repeatedly failed.
The bearing failure was caused by fuel leaking from the pump shaft seal into the evacuation chamber at a rate which exceeded the chamber drain capability.
Hence the lower bearing becomes fuel saturated.
The fuel pump evacuation chamber contained (and all leaking fuel leaves) a red residue.
The residue looks like rust and the failed bearings acts like it is rust (binding).
Removal and examination of the fuel screen, residual fuel from the filter, and fuel screen internals show the same red residue AND it looks like someone took a dump in the fuel inside the fuel screen housing.
I know for fact that ALL fuel which has been introduced to this airplane has been carefully filtered AND run through a water separator.
So where in the hell is this trash coming from? Anyone know? Is there any Iron in this mess of a fuel system?
