• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Well, B5 is up and flying once again. Had an electrical problem last October, in that the system was not charging. Finally traced to the stator, which was replaced this spring. Owner of hanger decided to insulate this winter, and we could not get in there. Finally, we were able to get at the plane and removed engine. While I had it apart, I decided to replace the coolant hoses due to a small leak. When we rebuilt the bird several years ago, and added a 582, we needed water cooling.... Two small oil radiators were affixed to the fuselage between the wings. After everything was built on, we found that the rads had a 3/4 inch inlet, so it was necessary to put in a 1-3/4 in reducer in the water lines. In the wintertime, it leaked and that bothered me. so........... I decided to install a 1" outlet on the rads, which leaked badly as I could not tighten them enough so that the outlet pointed into the body.......... so am replacing the hardware right at this moment, hopefully putting an end to that problem. Found a company in CA. that has all types of hoses and fittings. (HPS performance silicon hoses) They got everything. Will be done today or tomorrow.
