• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I am installing a BRS chute in my S1S build.

I have thought about this for a long time and study the pros and cons of installing a ballistic parachute system on a Pitts and for me, the pros out weigh the cons.
The location for this is in the center section of the top wing where some of you have a fuel or smoke tank. This is only possible by using a soft pack 1050# .
I have been working with Boris, the owner of BRS and his engineer to figure this out. Boris has been able to re size his pack dimension to 10"x 14.5 x5.5 and weighs 29# This will almost fit in the center section with out a bump. But I believe I will have about a .75" bump in the bottom of the wing where the cabane faring is. Obviously it will protrude out beyond the faring a few inches on each side. I don't think this will be that bad looking, as long it is done neatly. I will post some pictures of the install along the way.

Thanks

Curtis.
