Hi all,

Im returning an old Pitts S-1E to flying condition. It has an IO-360 200hp and a C/S prop. I decided to have the prop overhauled just because it’s old and has no logs. The shop took it apart and found evidence of a prop strike and says the prop is beyond repair. (The prop strike was not in the Pitts).

For “only” $17,400 and a 16 week wait they can get me a new one. Or….I think I could put a new Sensenich ground adjustable prop on it for a fraction of the cost.

so the question is: is a c/s prop worth it on an S-1? Of course it’s heavy and I’m concerned about the CG for when I reweigh The airplane for its new W&B.

Is there a massive performance difference? Is it worth almost 20G’s? I’m 99.3% sure I want to go with the newer lighter weight Sensenich prop but thought I’d seek some advice from the experience here.

BTW, I’ve started a video series on the “restoration” of this E model if your interested.

Thanks, Mark
