• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I am looking at the rigging on my airplane. I have found several items and noted some issues which are leading me to question the rigging of my Charger. I want to check and adjust the rigging of the airplane.
Yesterday I leveled the airplane per plans and then using a plumb bob checked the lateral positioning of the cabane struts to +/- 1/16". That was fine.

Next I put an incidence board on the lower wings at an inboard position and measured 1.8 degrees which is within the 2 degrees +/- 15' tolerance specified.

Next I measured the incidence on the upper wing at an inboard position and measured 1.4 degrees which is well OUTSIDE of the 1 degree +/- 15' spec.

The way to lower the incidence on the upper wing would be to lengthen the aft cabane struts by backing out the fork end. The problem here is that the fork end already has about 1" of thread showing, and appears that the amount of thread currently engaged is ~3/8". What can the minimum thread engagement be? I had always used the major diameter of the thread as the minimum engagement. Is there an AC43-13a spec for this? Also, can someone tell me the fork end used on the aft cabane strut? I can't seem to find it in ACS.

Next question.. the dihedral on the lower wing is closer to 1 degree than 2 degrees. I have been happy with the lateral stability of the plane so I was wondering if others have departed from the rigging specified on the plans.
Thanks,
Glenn
