• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi there,

Doing my first annual on my Skybolt, of which I'm the 3rd owner. The builder used a few of Mac's ideas, including thestick-to-stick assembly using the bearing ends.

Well, Inoticed they used clevis & cotter pins to hold the stick-to-stick tube to the control sticks, and the rear control stick to the elevator pushrod.

In the Mechanic's Toolbox software (from Sacramento SkyRanch) it says "No clevis pin subject to load or motion and retained only by cotter pins may be used in the control system."

I can't find a reference to what should be there anywhere, including the Skybolt Builder's Manual and Mac's newsletters.

I don't know if there's enough room in there to use a drilled bolt/castle nut.

Thanks in advance for any advice here. This forumhas been indispensible for my own learning!

Mike
