I am sorry to report the passing of Bob Haney of Medinah, IL. on Tuesday of this week after a short illness. While Bob was not a member of this forum, he was a prolific builder and restorer of many airplanes, including his Super Cub, Bird Dog, Meyers 145, my Midget Mustang and his beautiful 540 powered Skybolt, N88BH,which appeared at Oshkosh the first time 2002. Bob and I were both building our Skybolts at the same time, with each of us building two sets of whatever we were working on for each other's airplane. The two engines came out of the same Aztec.
AB-17 top-turret gunner who was wounded in combat during WW2, Bob returned from the war to raise a family, start a successful business and became a fixture in the aviation scene in Chicago, working, rebuilding, and building more airplanes than I've ever sat in. At 87, he was just finishing a Sonex, his latest project. I'm happy to report that his family considers his Skybolt an heirloom and has been passed down to his son-in-law, Larry Kringlewho will be flying it with his daughter and her husband, both pilots themselves.
Bob was a true gentleman and is already sorely missed.
