• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Crazy idea. Adding air to brakes.

Ive been struggling with some seriously touchy brakes with both my S1S's at my home strip that is 30' wide paved with ditches on both sides. 3 points are scary here. Wheel landings are the ticket. No matter.
My issue is generally the geometry of the brakes to rudder activation. To move the rudder without activating brakes, requires some serious work on my ankles trying to put my toes to my knees and keeping toes off brakes. Its not desirable and makes my ankles hurt after a few touch n goes. And when I want some brakes, I cant seem to just apply a little. Breathing on them puts more brake on than I want.
Looking at the rudder pedal geometry, I cant see any real way to make adjustments to improve the geometry. So Im thinking of adding some air in the lines to soften the brakes. Make them less touchy. Sound crazy?
Ive had others fly the planes, they did not complain. Maybe my ankle dexterity is not up to par. I dunno.
Thoughts please. Thanks
Mike
