• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

My new next door hangar neighbor is Biplane Forums very own Jim Helms, aka jdhmotor. He showed me his very own custom homebuilt yesterday. Not an airplane, but the next best thing. It’s an exact replica of the original Batmobile. He said it was to spec to the original. It even has a working “jet exhaust” that throws a flame about 4 feet out the rear “jet” nozzle. This thing is beautifully made and the attention to detail is incredible. Here are a few photos.

As I was starting to start my plane to warm up the engine oil for changing, he casually mentions he flew on Walker, Texas Ranger. I said, you can’t just drop that little lovely and walk away. I peppered him with questions and come to find out he was Chuck Norris stunt coordinator and pilot (fixed wing and rotor). Told me he even had several speaking roles on the show and was “Ranger Jim” when he wasn't disguised as a bad guy. When I got home I did some googling and found this which shows some of the episodes he was in.http://www.imdb.com

Start this one at :40 minutes. He used Gene Soucy's ShowCat. He and the
late Charlie Hilliard did this together.

He also flew for many movies. He told me he started by going to stuntman school in California and was auditioning for the role of a bad guy to fight Chuck. Chuck heard Jim was a helo pilot and asked him if he could fly in the series and the rest is history. Jim would never have brought this forward to the group because he is a very humble man. I hope this doesn’t embarrass him too much. I can’t wait to pull some more stories out of him.
Even with all this to play with, I did get my oil changed!
