• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi all,

Have been lurking around the site for some time and wanted to formally introduce myself. I am on contract in South Africa for the next 3-4 years and have decided to build the Skybolt. WhileI am currently on business in Canada I have taken the time to buy the plans and order some small tooling to hand-carry on to SA. Have ordered the tubing and now must find a place to build in SA. When I get there in mid-January I want to hit the ground running! As I only have 3-4 years I would preferto finish in this time-frame as I am concerned at taking a partially completed project to another country somewhere else in the world and try to get it approved. But if it must happen, so be it.... I heed all your comments about not fixating on time!!

Having done a lot of research (kudos to those of you on this site and Beej's excellent website forso muchassistance...) I intend to build as close to original plans as possible with one minor change - I want to square off the wing tips (not clip them, just square them) as I agree with a comment on this site about the 'bad a** look' it gives the 'bolt.

I welcome any contact, although doubt I can be of much help at this early stage. I am the New Zealand & Australian equivalent of your A&P but I'm looking forward to learning the multitude of new lessons that building from scratch will bring.

Regards

David
