• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

...says the little voice in the back of my head. I'm contacting a flight instructor to talk about costs and availability of time in the air to get my private pilot license, and looking into building a small shed in my backyard to house a building project: a Pitts Special. I'm pricing wood and tools from Aircraft Spruce and performing the financial gymnastics (with touch-and-go permission from my wife) to line up the funds to get ANY of this done.

I must be crazy.

Good thing it's a happy sort of crazy.

Hi guys, my name is Evan Weeks, and I've caught the bug BAD. From reading in the forums here (I've been lurking a while), I gather that building from scratch rather than from the assorted pre-manufactured "kits" is the way to go for the financially challenged with time and some shop skills. What's killing me is looking at the cost of basic avionics. I had no idea a NAV/COM radio would cost that much, to say nothing of the insanity of adding a GPS.

Anyway, this is my "hello" post, to let you know I'm around, I'm reading and learning, and I may ask dumb questions from time to time.

-Evan
