• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi all. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

A quick introduction - I am just starting a 4-year contract in South Africa and have decided to build a Skybolt. I have the plans and am assembling the tools. I have been lurking on this site for a while and am impressed with such a great resource!

I have a question however, due to a problem generated by the South African CAA. To build and ulimately fly an experimental aircraft in South Africa, you must be issued with a 'build number'. To get this magical number you must provide

(quote) ....please refer to part 24 and SA-CATS-NTCA (24.01.2 Airworthiness) for thedocumentation that needs to be submitted for a build number. The CATSrefers to the documents which need to be submitted such as design criteria, engineering design analysis etc. Appendix C in the cats refers tothe checklist for aerodynamic analysis and the standards to which the aircraft was built to.... (unquote).

Usual bureaucracy; but without some design criteria or aerodynamic analysis, I will struggle to get the build number.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding some of the design info behind the Skybolt (if it exists)?

Thanks for your advice.
Dave
