Eagle pilots, we want you!
In 2017, the eligible voting members of the PRPA (Professional Race Pilots Association) voted to allow two-seat aircraft to have a constant-speed propeller (previously all single- and two-seat biplanes were required to have a fixed-pitch prop).
The only other real caveat with most Eagles is that the angle-valve engines must still be stock. Many of the Eagles still retain the stock AEIO-360 engines (200hp), but if yours has cold air induction, higher compression, different cam, etc.. it is only eligible as as filler aircraft (which still isn't a bad thing). We've raced with numerous filler aircraft in the past!
If you haven't raced at Reno, you must first attend Pylon Racing Seminar (aka...PRS, or "Rookie School") held in June at Reno. You are NOT required to bring your airplane with you in June. You can attend all the ground school classes in June, but defer your flying portion of the evaluation until the week prior to the races in September (when you'd have your plane out there). We really try to make it easy on attracting new racers. Of course, you can bring your airplane in June and knock it all out at once, as well.
It's surprisingly inexpensive to come to Reno as a competitor.
PRS Application is online at www.airrace.org
Additional Biplane Class information is available at www.biplaneracing.org
We already have a repeat offender coming in his Eagle from Canada for 2018. He raced in 2015 as a filler but now will be "competitive".
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me on the BiplaneForum or call me 615 604 8557.
