• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hello....

As I expand my awareness of SOJ’s flight envelope, I find I run out of NOSE DOWN trim around 150 mph, keep in mind that with my 200 ponies, a Hoffman Fixed Pitch prop, I only see 150 mph, at 2500 rpm, on a cold day (was 0 C or 32 F yesterday, on the ground), however I have flown the airplane much faster and would love a little more trim.

SOJ only has the one trim tab on the left elevator, I see many newer Skybolts with two tabs, as well as the new ones produced by Steen, have two. Is there anything I can do to SOJ to gain a little more trim capability with the config I have, or is this really necessary considering I’m only in the 150-190 range during aeros. I was warned to trim for level flight speed before attempting any aeros, so 150 is as good as it gets right now (trim wise).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Dave
