• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Engine selection: For some reason I have set in my mind the IO360 rated at 200 hp is the power plant for my Skybolt. Is there much performance difference if an O360 180hp was used instead? Pros and cons with fuel consumption maintenance Initial cost .Is the horsepower gained with the 200 hp offset by the additional weight of the engine? I’m doing my best in weight control (even losing a few pounds myself) building a bare bones aircraft minimal instruments, no smoke or vacuum system possibly no wing tank and a, fixed pitched prop. I’m building this aircraft because I like biplanes and want to enjoy it for weekend flying. I would like to perform some aerobatics but do not plan to compete in the Aerobatic world or shows.I do not want an under powered Aircraft. Comments would be appreciated. Thank you Tim
