My question is, if one was going to inspect an engine besides a bore scope which cylinder would you pull, or more than one. The engine is the O-235-C1 it has about 220 hrs since overhaul back in the 70s, both screens are clean the engine was on a Vareze that sat in the guys garage for many yrs. It is fairly complete with mags Carb, and Vacuum pump, there is no alternator Starter or fuel pump, I am not a fan of Slick mags, just me. It is a solid lifter engine, and they along with the O-290-D had cam and lifter issues needing valve adjustment on a regular basis and to be run regularly.
The last engine I bought was overhauled in the early 80s had 300 hrs since Overhaul and ended up having thrust flange issues as well a bad cam and lifters. I want to look at this engine internally before I make an offer, and the owner is good with my doing so. Any advise or comments from others that have done so would be much appreciated. I know they are a 50/50 chance at best, and this is what I would tell others if asked. Dave
