• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

So, later this year I will be ready to begin looking/acquiring an engine. I got to pondering...if by chance I stumble across, at the right place and time, a very nice mid time IO-360 ready to bolt on, I will probably do that. However, being in the right place and time may well not happen. Then I have the following routes....
- as I understand things, to start with a core with a good local engine buddy, I will end up getting close to $20k in it by the time the fat lady sings..
- if I use a kit vendor like ECI (for example) + the local engine buddy, it will be a little higher.
-if I go Barratt Performance, I am pushing things to 30k.

So, finally to my question (hypothetical): If you saw a shiny new canopied Skybolt on barnstormers for $55k, would you be immediately more attracted to another shiny new Skybolt at $65k - because it has a Barratt engine?<br ="apple-interchange-newline"="">
I suppose what I am getting at is, is the extra cost for special quality and name beneficial...(and no, I don't plan to sell).
