• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hey all, <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I was considering building a Culp special however after some research and talking to friends who have flown the Yak 52 the fuel and oil consumption of the MP14 may put a bit of a squeeze on me. Not that I can’t afford it but going with 200hp you get about 85% of the performance and 1/2 the price per hour.

That being considered I have been reading about the skybolts history. I see on Steen aero there are some options. There is the standard and the D. I like the D because of the up gross and the three piece upper wing. I plan on moving once during the build so ease of transport could be a player.

That being said the comments towards the fire bolt are appealing. I understand it uses a different gear and it accommodates larger pilots better. Not that I am that tall but at 6'2" and 180lbssome planes just don’t fit well.

If anyone could comment on the differences between the skybolt and the firebolt it would be most appreciated. Also is it possible to put the delta wing on the Firebolt fuse?

Cheers

Adam
