• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hello all!
I own a Fisher Celebrity with an O-200 Continental and Culver prop. Two seater ex N500BC. Exported it to Central America when I went as an expat to work for a large beer brewing multinational company-
Now in South America, (Bogotá Colombia-SKGY airport) where I have my plane. I imported it (instead of flying it in). Customs wrecked it with a forklift... SInce, I´ve rebuilding the gear.
Now to the point. Field elevation is 8,535 feet. Temps go up to around 68° to Density altitudes here obviously high. I've flown here so know the drill with leaning for max power. I never fly at gross (1,230#) even with full fuel and pax. Around 1,050 lbs. Question: Is it crazy to assume that with such load and avverage DA (around 10,200 to 10,600) I will get off the ground and be able to sloooowly climb out? Max ceiling is said to be 13,700 (by Jane's All the World's Aircraft)
Don't intend to go fast, but need to go a bit high, to leave this plateau I need at least 9,500 for mountain passes.
Any thoughts? (other than the obvious "you are crazy" or "you'll freeze to death"...):D
