There are four tailwheel leaf springs on my S1 with J3-springs/Maule gear. Apparently the fourth spring was added after an incident at 55hrs TT where the attachment bolt broke. The rudder was damaged and recovered, and the fourth spring installed. Any thoughts on removing the extra spring for an improved CG and weightloss? A stiffer spring setup should be more harmful to the bolt so I can't figure why this was done.

The tail sits very proud, three springs should do fine in that respect. She will get a new bolt and possibly an API gear assy in the process.

Also, when working on the tailwheel, how do you jack the tail?
