• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

So today I started with the fuel system, I removed the tank and the flop tube to order a new one, when I got to the gascolator, as you can see from the photos,it had obviously been leaking at some point in the past

When I disassembled the gascolator the upper portion was separated from the lower bowl by a screen type filter but there was no o-ring evident in the joint between the two pieces, although the fit between the cap and the lower bowl was very precise so perhaps an o-ring is not necessary and the leaking was due to the cap screws not being safety wired.

If anyone can identify the gascolator or let me know if there is supposed to be an o-ring in the joint between the cap and the lower bowl I would love to know....

I guess the one good thing about all the wildfire smoke is that I cannot go flying and my family is happy to stay indoors so I can make some progress on the S1.

Made a big order to ACS tonight. The engine tear down starts next week and I am curious to see what we find.
