Hello Everyone
I am having problems with my Haight type tailwheel tailpost rod. Old and original is getting some slack and play after even going oversize bolt from SAE to metric. It is ok but at some point will have to be replaced.
i made one out of 6061 or 2024, cant remember wich after two years of use snapped with a landing at max gross. It was light for sure. Made a new one in the Hardest inox steel could get, 316. In the first flight got twisted after a greaser (wheel landing of course ). It was a surprise after how good the aluminium worked and light.
I am going for the third but canāt find titanium in that size.
Anyone know the material of the original Haight tailwheel post? Some kind of heat treatment?
by the way, new ones are shorter to get more propeller clearence and allso weight savings.
