• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi all! This is my first post here, but I can already tell there is a ton of knowledge to be had! I'm currently in my second to last semester of my engineering degree (Systems Engineering and Design) and would potentially like to start working on my Grandfather's Pitts S1E that he had Falcon wings on. He competed in the late 80's and early 90's up through unlimited in it with an HIO-360 that he converted. I believe its either an -C1A or a -C1B (I'm currently not home to look at it) and am wondering where to start as far as looking into parts cost and what not. I would like to rebuild the engine myself, under the guidance of an IA family friend, as I have built several car engines (6.2 detroit diesel and chevy 350). Then, over the next year and a half or so, work on stripping the fuselage down and rebuilding it from the ground up.

My whole life I've wanted to fly this plane as my Grandfather took it apart the year I was born and it's been sitting in our hangar ever since.
Thanks,
Sean:D
