• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I figured it’s about time I start a build thread. I have to admit I was a little intimidated by the amount of experience on this site. I’ve been looking for a Pitts project for a while. I eventually stopped looking due to family/life events and the COVID logistics issues with the US/CAN border closure. I contemplated building from the ground up in the meantime so I contacted several known members about starting off with a wing kit. I was about to pull the trigger on one until a Pitts S-1D pretty much fell right into my lap. 30 minutes away from my house. In my mind I got a fair deal.....and delivery included! The project came from a well respected and known mechanic on the Canadian aerobatic scene.

I am hoping to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on this site and get as much help as I can. The plan right now is to get her in the air safely, and just putter around and have fun. She definitely won’t be a show plane. I was fortunate enough to have Kelvin (Ultimate build) swing by my place and take a good look through the project. He didn’t ask me for a zippo to start a bonfire with the wings, so things are looking good. I’m hoping to keep things light and simple. O-320, light weight prop, no electrics except battery, starter etc.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I think the hardest part of buying a project like this is figuring out where to put everything...and keeping my 3 boys from shooting hockey pucks at it. Oh and they even have Pitts approved sawhorses in Canada! More to follow....
