So I need some opinions on a 21 year old Lycoming AIEO360 that has 145 hours total time since new. The engine apparently runs fine ....but I've only had a brief talk with the owner and will talk more this week and gather more info. In the mean time I have a friend who's insistent an engine that old with that little time likely has corrosion somewhere inside. Yes, it may run ok now but it's greater than 50/50 it'll start making metal in a 100 hours or so and lead to a overhaul. --He says with this particular engine the corrosion will likely be lurking back on the aft end of the camshaft. And even though inspection of the lower end may be clean, the back part of the cam that you can't inspect will have issues.
Any body have any ideas or info on this?
Thanks!
