• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

We have the two tubes left to install below the main tank. We dry-fit the tank and found the typical conflicting spot which lands right on the seam of the aerobatic tank. We can get around that issue by moving the upper end of the tubes farther out.
Curiosity made me check the height of the tank and fuel cap with regards to the upper skin. The plans show the rear instrument panel 7" in height above the longerons, the front panel 6 3/4" above the longerons and the firewall 5 1/4" above the longeron centerlines. We mocked up the tank in place and the fuel cap on the Steen tank would stick halfway through the skin if we use that firewall measurement. I am under the impression there should be a straight line from the nosebowl back to the front panel for appearance sake. I would expect some measurement has to change with the different engine mounts for 360 and 540 engines. I have a feeling we won't be able to 100% resolve this without an engine and nosebowl but I am really curious about what other builders have run into, is that 5 1/4" measurement at the firewall good and if that fuel cap does in fact land halfway through the skin.

Anyone know the answer to this?

cheers,
Jim
