I was looking at my tail wheel yesterday, its a Maule TW-100. The steering arm is loose side to side, or up and down but not right or left if the wheelwas being turned.
I removed the cap on top and there is a nut that holds the steering arm and the ring that allows the tail wheel to be locked or unlocked if you want to reverse the wheel direction. The nut is tight and will not move down any further.
My question is: should it be tight or if not how much play shouldI have in the steering arm?
Aircraft Spruce has the replacement parts if they need to be replaced.
