• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

What are the best ways to increase the roll rate on a stock Skybolt?

A single aileron roll currently takes about 3-3.5 seconds at about 120 KIAS. Slow rolls are slower of course due to the rudder input.

How much do gap seals increase the roll rate on a stock Skybolt? What type of tape (with, brand etc) do folks use and should they be applied as some other people have written up for Pitts in the forums?

I fly nearly at the published forward CG limit with just me and full fuel. This is handy when flying with a passenger as I can stay forward of the aft limit with minimal gas and a 250 lb person in the front pit. The downside of the forward empty CG I think it may increase the amount of rudder needed to keep the nose on a point a bit during a slow roll.

Should I consider moving things around to get the CG better optimized for solo aerobatics?
