• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I purchased an AEIO-540 D4A5 from a gentleman in Australia, it was his spare engine for his airshow Pitts. Since he moved on to a mono wing Edge he didn't need the spare engine so we made a deal. Having gone through some lessons in importing ac parts, I had to hire a customs broker, and deal with a myriad of fees that seem nonsensical. I will be picking up the engine at the warehouse and I will deliver it for final assembly at Aerodyne.

My goal is to put a certified aerobatic engine on the Skybolt. I just had the Mags overhauled at Aircraft Magneto Service in Montana, great outfit, I have a set ready with its shower of sparks ignition, recommended by Lycoming.

I'll try to post pics of the progress on the Skybolt.

Here is the old engine, an old IO-540

And here she sits waiting for her new engine
