Hi folks,
I just found this great site. I am a 600 hr pilot based in southern New Mexico/West Texas region. I am a recent taildragger convert, flying a '48 C-140 for 1.5 years. I also have time in Aerobats, PA-12's and a Stearman.
I am ready to move up into a 2-place biplane with some acro capability and am looking for some direction concerning what to buy.
My mission is to fly my wife on warm Sundays mornings, take her cross country to air shows/fly-ins (and sneak off by myself for some mild acro.)
I am a tall guy, (6' 2", bare foot and 230 lbs). I fly the 140 with Simpson race car driving shoes so as to get my big feet under the panel.
I have sat in a Starduster II rear cockpit and I and can make one work size wise, but it's tight.
I have heard that the Skybolt is a large man's airplane but have no local access to one for a fit-check.
I am looking for a flying airplane, good condition, recent annual. Canopy or open cockpit.
Some yellow on it would be a big bonus for me as that is my wife's fav. color, (but not a deal breaker...). In any case we would want to fly it home.
Any advice on a good biplane for a tall guy? I am trying to narrow down my choices before I go flying around the country.
Thanks, Brett
