• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi All,

I have been lurking on this site for a while and participating in the Skybolt forums but wanted to properly introduce myself.

Cameron - 45 live in Sydney- flying for 6 years and dreaming of building a plane for 4 of that. I want to build primarily for the experience and learning. It always annoyed me that I could fly on weekends then as soon as I left the airfield, aviation went back to reading magazines and websites. I figured it would be a good way to keep my love of aviation going during the week as well.

Learnt to fly at YWVA and now fly out of YSBK having progressed to doing aerobatics after my PPL.

Building a Skybolt, but a delta version, standard engine. I have seen the radial flying in Europe, Jerry's got one coming but other than JimW's on this forum (which looks like it has stopped) I think this will be the only one. Doing that due to space at home and bigger range. Starting on the Top wing centre section. Completed most of the metal work, just finished the capstrips for the ribs and bevelling the spars. Once that is done, then need to laminate up 3 stringers then time for assembly. As it has been all from scratch (no kits parts) and me learning timber and woodwork, it has taken some time. Will get quicker from here.

Picked the Skybolt as I see myself doing "gentleman" aerobatics and flying on weekends in local areas rather than cross country oh and it looks sooooo pretty. Also seems to be plenty of kit parts around and Steen is only a phone call away.
