• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I've been wrestling with trying to get these 12' stringers (yeah I'm running them from the front of the passenger pit to the tail) of mine to lay in a straight level line. I spent hours making wood jigs to hold the stringers at a certain height and a certain distance from the fuselage.

After all those hours of work... they looked like 12' snakes. DAMN !!!

Spent an hour leveling the fuselage... then I figured that ain't gonna work because they start at one distance apart, in the front of the fuselage, and more or less converge at the tail. DAMN !!!

After scratching my head for a half hour an idea occured to me... LASER LEVEL !!! I had one, but it was only the point type. Went over to the Home Depot and picked up the Ryobi Airgrip ProCross Laser Level for $49.00. Don't... it's a POS. Took it back and picked up the $109.00 Bosch Self Level Cross-Line Laser. NICE !!!

Set that puppy up and within a half hour I had the first stringer jigged nice and level; within fractions of fractions.

All that jigging wasn't in vain... still needed them for the distance off the fuselage.
