• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi,

I spent the better part of the day making a nose block template and the 21 1/4" standard rib nose blocks out of 1/4" plywood. I was doing well and thought I could get the 5/8" nose blocks done also. Ouch. I was shocked to find that 5/8" spruce behaves very differently than 1/4" plywood. The spruce splinters and fractures. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I am using the same 1/4" diameter router bit that I used on the plywood. I have tried different speeds and directions. So far, everything I have tried has failed.

p.s.

At this point in my life I have no humility left. So, I've decided to share my adventure with family and friends via YouTube. If you would like to watch me "build" my AcroSport 2 have a look at : http://www.youtube/user/AcroSportBuilder. I'm uploading my "Nose Block" video now.

While I'm at it, if you would like to see me preforming all those difficult to master maneuvers like the off center landing, the bunnyhop, or see the Michigan country side I've been posting my flying videos here : http://www.youtube.com/user/IFlyAnnArbor
