I have an F1A6 on my Starduster. The prop gov is brand new. In my installation, my prop cable comes from the oil sump mating area and up through the baffling, so the entire head of the governor had to be clocked one hole clockwise. On run up, the prop won’t cycle below 2000 rpm. I get 2700 on takeoff, but I never hear the governor “catch” it. In flight when I pull the throttle back, the rpm comes down before the manifold pressure moves, acting like a fixed pitch. I moved the splined shaft one tooth at a time on the arm until I got a good cycle at run up, but then the governor “catches” the rpm at 2350 even with the low pitch stop screw all the way out, and I get a manifold pressure drop with throttle reduction, but before it squares up, the rpm starts to drop like before and it runs over square all the time. I moved the shaft back where it was…the prop is fresh, less than 4 hrs. The only thing left I can come up with is prop cable travel. Am I in the ballpark? If I weren’t bald, I’d be pulling my hair out. Got to be a simple issue I’m missing, I’ve always been taught that you’ll never be bitten by an elephant, but a mosquito will wear you out.
