• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

I got home from OSH on Friday evening at 7:30 after fighting headwinds for 10 hours from OSH. The high pressue that gave me the good weather also gave me the winds on my nose all the way. The19 hours total round trip air time, including a photo flight, was a good shakedown for the airframe and engine, and for me as well, learning what it takes to get this thing around the country.

The airplane was very well received at OSH. Lots of people looked it over while I stood back listening to their comments. One knowledgeable fellow told his two friends, "Now this isa Pitts Model 12 that's been modified, which is something you should never do! This guy should have just followed the plans and built it the way it was designed!"

I attended Kevin Kimball's forum on the Model 12 and came away with a new wish list: Airflow Performance fuel injection system, which cuts down fuel consumption by about 40%!!!; electric start system; and new racing automotive ignition wires and spark plugs, which means a spark plug change costs $50 instead of $600!!!

I saw three Toots there, but never saw Tommy around. The Elmendorf Special was there, and on the back of the fuel tank were the words "This is the coolest airplane I've ever flown!" I asked the owner, Kim Koch, where he got the idea for that. He said, "I saw it on Kyle Franklin's new airplane in front of the IAC building, so I had one of the vendors make me one up, and I stuck it on my tank!" I said, "That's not Kyle's airplane, that's mine!"
