• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

We are nearing paint time. I think. I hope.....

I have a few questions, as other than rattle can painting, I have never painted a thing that didnt use a brush (or occasionally a roller).

Quantity: How many total gallons of paint does it take to paint a biplane? Just top coat would be handy but primer is also useful to know.

Assume a 5 color paint scheme, not necessarily complex but where it is complex, we should have vinyl masks to assist for next questions:

How long would it take to paint it professionally if the fabric have the initial gray coats (ecofill, not sprayed on), the fiberglass has been prime coat only, much of the metal etched.

How much would it cost to paint it professionally? Roughly.

I am trying to decide how much paint to order and what to expect if I seek professional help in painting.
