• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Gents,

First of all Hi. New to the site and new to building.

Just started my S1-C with the wing Kit from Steen but I thought I would throw out a couple of questions.

I'm buildling my Wing Ribs at present and was wondering what is recommended to sealing the wood after they have been completed. Should I wait for the complete wing to be assembled or is it more practical to do it as I go. I would think the latter but I revert to the combined experiance of the group here.

One other question. The Plans call for the supports to be mitred in the Ribs (or the way they are drawn) but the assembly instructions say it is builders choice. What is the opinion of the group in terms of added strength in the Rib. I'm guessing the critical structual concern is in the gussets. Again I revert to the group.

Cheers

Brian
