• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Just got my prop back from a complete overhaul 30 hours ago (hartzell HC-92Y-8) . Had trusted mechanic torque bolts to 65 ft/lbs and safety wire. The last 2 flights I had noticed a little bit of very fine oil on the very front of the cowl. Several people told me that it is not unusual for a prop to weep a bit. Saturday I was flying home from the Golden West flyin when suddenly there is oil everywhere. Declared an emergency and made it back to the field with no vibration at all. When I got it stopped and my shorts checked, we took the spinner off to find 3 sheared off prop bolt heads dangling around the spinner. WTF? I believe my prop was with in minutes of leaving the airframe. Has anyone had this happen? What are some possible reasons. Prop is on its way back to prop shop today. Yes all new prop bolts at overhaul.
