I've noticed that in the discussions about API and other steerable tailwheel options, not much gets mentioned about the steering arm. But the arm seems to be the only challenge to the switchover from a Haigh. I have a Haigh (two actually) and, assuming I can find or build an arm, I will switch to the 4 inch, single arm, round-spring version. I have no interest in switching to a leaf spring. Most steering arms have extensions the carry the steering moment several inches below the rudder. I can see the reason for this extension if the installation involves a leaf spring because the angle from the base of the rudder down to the tailwheel would be too extreme. But is this lowering extension needed for a "stinger" spring type setup? The stinger extends the tailwheel far enough back that the line from the base of the rudder "spar" too the wheel wouldn't seem to be a problem--as I see it anyway.
