• The Biplane Forum is a large global active community of biplane builders, owners and pilots. From Pitts to Skybolts, to older barnstormers, all types are welcome. In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.

The Biplane Forum is a private community. Subscriptions are only $49.99/year or $6.99/month to gain access to this great community and unmatched source of information not found anywhere else on the web. We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction). Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Remember your first Pitts sighting?
I saw my first Pitts in 1964 when my dad took to me to the first Reno Air Races. The first year or two was held at the Sky Ranch airport a 2000’ dirt strip. At about 8 years old I remember a major dust storm. We flew over from the Bay Area in my dad’s Cessna 140, don’t remember where we landed.
I don’t remember much other than the red Pitts ( and the sandstorm) but Harold Krier was there, Art Scholl raced, Clay Lacy, lots of history there that day. I think the US Nationals we’re held there in 1964 maybe that’s why the Pitts is burned in my memory.
I was very lucky to have flown a new factory delivered S2-B for ten years courtesy of my casino owner, airplane collector, employer. Randy Gagne did my checkout, super qualified guy, heavy on the spin training, as it should be.
Every memory of the Pitts makes me smile.
I’m a new lurking forum member and realize I’m pretty far behind the experimental side of light aircraft. Another Pitts is in my future so I’ll be watching and waiting for an opportunity.
